A compact electric dryer arrives fully tested
Whilst most dryers are too large to be sent to a customer fully assembled, the compact solution designed by Mitchell Dryers for a food science research institute in Norway was built and fully tested in the UK such that minimal commissioning was necessary when it arrived on site.
“That was important to the scientists who will be using the equipment for demonstrations,” explains Jamie Donaldson, operations manager at Mitchell Dryers. “They wanted a solution that was simple to install, very safe to use and small enough to fit easily into their facility. We designed and supplied a fully wired machine that they could plug in with very little input from us.”
The solution included interconnecting conveyers and ancillary equipment. “With any project, right from the earliest design stage we’re thinking about where the equipment will be located, any specific site conditions and the most efficient means of transportation. Sometimes the dryer needs to travel in one piece or sometimes it has to be flat-packed into containers. We have to think ahead to the cranes that will be bringing it in and the lift attachments needed.”
Getting everyone round the table is essential. “It’s always a team effort. We all need to interrogate the site plan and be fully familiar with what the customer’s expecting, whatever our job. We’ll discuss what we’ve done before and what we could do differently,” says Jamie. “We’re continually looking to improve.”
