Procurement Manager


As part of the operations department, you will play a vital role in Mitchell Dryers Ltd financial buying operations. You will work with the Project Engineers to order materials required at the best costs while maintaining a high-quality standard in a reasonable time.

This is a fast paced and challenging role. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels. You will be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines along with the ability to work as part of a team as well as on your own.


  • Work closely with the Projects team and key company employees to help secure contracts and minimise delays to any live running contracts
  • Work with the compliance team in relation to supply chain auditing
  • Working with the estimating department on sourcing prices through a tendering process for inclusion in contract estimates.
  • To develop a sourcing strategy that determines the appropriate timings, lengths and type of contact by purchase area or material
  • Responsible for procurement of raw materials and components
  • Checking and updating prices of raw materials and components on an ongoing basis
  • Maintaining accurate documentation both electronically and manually
  • Checking & approval of invoices prior to payment
  • Ensure activities undertaken comply with Supply Chain Directorate policies, procedures, legislative and governmental requirements so that commercial risks are identified and mitigated
  • Ensure value added commercial and financial contract management techniques are used in the management of contracts within their portfolio through to contract close out to ensure that benefits are realised including monetary savings
  • Deliver KPI’s relating to cost, quality, and supply
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities and negotiate accordingly
  • Building effective working relationships across the business
  • To maintain procurement activity records, reports and date which support decision making processes ensuring that these are accurate and produced to agreed timescales.
  • Ad hoc duties as required.


Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience of procurement/purchasing in the engineering sector
  • Experience in negotiating contracts of various size and complexity
  • Capacity to evaluate issues analytically and commercially
  • Have the resilience and positive attitude in response to change
  • Strong IT skills
  • Strong communication skills with experience of influencing at a senior level internally and externally
  • Maintain a values-orientated approach to how you operate as a representative of the business
  • Work well under pressure
  • Willing to learn
  • Previous purchasing/buying experience


  • Qualifications in a business-related field relevant to the role
  • Experience of working within the Engineering sector
  • Understanding of engineering or design
  • Import / export experience would be advantageous although not essential
  • Experience with rolling stock solutions would be advantageous
